papal visit 2010

On the 19th September 2010 during Pope Benedict's State visit of the UK he spent some time at Oscott College with the Bishops & Staff & Students

On Sunday 19th September Pope Benedict XVI beatified Cardinal John Henry Newman at Cofton Park in Birmingham. He then travelled to Oscott College to have lunch with the Bishops of England, Scotland and Wales.

After a short rest in the Episcopium (Bishop's room) he then addressed the Bishops in the College Chapel where, in 1852, Blessed John Henry Newman preached his famous "Second Spring" homily at the first meeting of Catholic Bishops in England since the Reformation.

Before his departure, The Holy Father met with seminarians from the English and Welsh seminaries for a group photograph. This is the first time a Pope has visited a seminary on British soil.
